Building Additions
We all love USB drives, USB cords, USB anything, but most computers don’t come with quite enough USB ports for anyone’s taste. That’s why the Lego themed USB hub sounds like such an excellent idea.
Lego remains a popular design theme in the world of gadgetry (whether or not the devices are actually branded by Lego). This USB hub would look no less attractive than any of the other brick related gadgets on the market today. It doesn’t appear to be available in America just yet, but I’m sure it’s on its way. It’s popularity and necessity just doesn’t com into question, who doesn’t love Legos?
A Wireless World
Could there ever actually be a real and complete wireless world? Well it looks like Intel has at least started to shepherd us down that very path.
The idea is that by placing any electronic device on a specially designed surface (desk, table, lab station) the device would get power. The company demonstrated said technology last Thursday by powering a light bulb at the Intel Developers Forum without the bulb being connected to any cords.
What a difference this tech could make with the knot of wires now concealed behind the desk in my dorm room. If only I could see the technology being available before I graduate.
Fashion Flaw
I’m all about convenience, it’s part of the reason technology as a complete concept appeals to me, but that doesn’t mean there are not a few missteps on the road to utility bliss.
For an example I’d just like to bring up the Lisco . It’s a design right now. It’s a USB cable as jewelry, functional jewelry. Now I’m not writing off the concept, I like the concept. Having a USB cord when you need it is convenient and a simple bracelet can have broad appeal (see Livestrong) but design here feels a bit off. It looks like a cuff almost. The simplicity is good but when the USB sticks out both ends of the band it seems a little less than trendy. Most USB flash drives come with caps for a reason. Taking a cue from the already portable flash drive might be an improvement.
I don’t see the tech jewelry market taking off any time too soon, but the brilliance is out there. The cell phone is very much its own accessory already so the mesh between the technologically practical and the fashionably designed is on its way.
