Playful Additions

One thing Nintendo Wii is never short on is an accessory. Recently some pretty interesting game specific additions have made there way to the market.

If you’re interested in Star Wars (as I definitely am) the “Star Wars – The Clone Wars: Republic of Heroes” will be shipping with the first officially licensed lightsaber add on. The Wiimote slides right into the blades handle and the blade itself glows. If you’re going to be swinging a Wiimote around the room anyway why not go all out? Bensussen Deutsch & Associates have plans to release a Star Wars blaster add on as well.

Nitho will be releasing it’s own set of wiimote additions for the already available Wii sports game. Tennis racket, baseball bat, golf club, all will be included and compatible with Wii Motion Plus. Sure, playing the games will still look ridiculous, but they always have.

Jedi Mind Tricks Coming to a Toy Store Near You

I’ll have to see it to believe it, but a new toy due in stores this fall will “train you to use the Force.” Actually it just reads your brain waves to make a little ping-pong sized ball rise in a tube, but still its very cool.

Jedi Force Trainer

The toy, created by Uncle Milton Toys, is the first of several new “brain-to-computer” toys hitting the market soon. It uses similar technology to a EEG machine, which is used by physicians to read brain waves.

The toy includes a wireless headset that you wear while concentrating on the ball and thinking about it moving. On Friday’s Good Morning America, the hosts played with toy and demonstrated how it worked.

The toy is marketed as a Jedi Force Trainer and has a voice over that will encourage you as you move through 13 “jedi training levels.”

The price is expected to be between $90-100 and will begin preselling on July 23.

The Force Continues

Yes Star Wars merchandise has been around since the 70’s but it’s still fun to explore the newest of products every once in awhile.

Beyond your average plastic lightsaber and even the wonders of the Force FX lightsaber a new (and in general more useful) lightsaber now exists.  The SFX LED Torch lightsaber combines the usefulness of an LED flashlight with the sleek style of a lightsaber handle, whoosh sound effect included.

At $20 the flashlight is a much more fairly priced than other Star Wars products on the market today.  It’s nerdy, but those of us interested in such merchandising could care less.  Whether it’s camping or just campy, the force is with us anyway.
